Makos Defense Dominates with Three Pick-Sixes to Clinch Conference Title Berth

Gulf Breeze, Fla. — November 1, 2025

The Lighthouse Christian College Makos “pick-sixed” their way into the New South Conference South Division crown on Saturday afternoon, storming to a commanding 48–6 victory that showcased one of the most dominant defensive performances in program history.

From the opening whistle, the Makos’ defense made it clear they came to make a statement. Safety Kemontre Current electrified the crowd with back-to-back interception returns for touchdowns in the first quarter — one from 49 yards and another from 39 yards out — giving Lighthouse an early 14–0 lead before the offense had even taken the field. Moments later, linebacker Bodie Hardy jarred the ball loose, and edge rusher Kabron Purifoy scooped it up and sprinted 15 yards for the Makos’ third defensive touchdown of the quarter.

By the end of the first period, Lighthouse led 21–0 — all courtesy of its opportunistic defense.

After halftime, the offense joined the party. Quarterback Ashton Nunes capped a steady third-quarter drive with a 3-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 28–0. On the next possession, Deonte Reinhardt found the end zone from 9 yards out to make it 35–0. But the defense wasn’t done. Kemontre Current struck again, reading the quarterback perfectly for his third interception of the day — returning it 30 yards for yet another touchdown.

In the fourth quarter, Nunes connected with Isiah Gildersleeve on an 11-yard touchdown pass, sealing the Makos’ 48–6 victory and a berth in the New South Conference Championship.

Overall, the Lighthouse defense accounted for 24 of the team’s 48 points, forcing turnovers and suffocating Atlantis’ offense throughout the afternoon. The front seven dominated the line of scrimmage, holding Atlantis to -19 yards rushing and recording seven sacks — three by Kabron Purifoy, two from Paul Gatley, and one each by Bodie Hardy and Brice French. Defensive back Justin Burks added another interception to complete the defensive onslaught.

Offensively, the Makos were just as efficient once they took the field. Jamarkus Jefferson logged another 100-yard performance on 21 carries, while Deon Morris added 64 yards on six runs. Evan Catlan was sharp on special teams, connecting on six of seven extra-point attempts.

With the win, Lighthouse Christian College improves its record and secures its place in the conference championship game.

The Makos will close out their regular season on Saturday, November 8, when they host Louisiana Christian Community College out of Lafayette, Louisiana. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
