Makos Outlast Westgate in Double Overtime Thriller, 36–28

In one of the most intense matchups of the season, the Lighthouse Christian College Makos battled past Westgate Christian University in a double-overtime showdown to claim a 36–28 victory. The win moves Lighthouse to 7–1 on the season and sets up a South Division title clash next week against Atlantis University.

The game started with Westgate jumping ahead early, striking first to take a 7–0 lead. But Lighthouse answered with authority—rattling off 21 unanswered points in the second quarter. Running back Jamarkus Jefferson set the tone, breaking tackles and powering through the defense en route to 220 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Ashton Nunes added precision to the attack, connecting with Troy Medlin on a 30-yard touchdown and Kobe Donnelly on a 47-yard strike.

Just before halftime, Westgate closed the gap  to 21–21. The second half turned into a back-and-forth battle, each team trading scores until the clock expired with the score tied 28–28.

In the first overtime, Lighthouse won the toss and chose to defend. The decision paid off when Kemontre Current intercepted a Westgate pass on the second play from scrimmage, halting their drive. The Makos then advanced to the 15-yard line but narrowly missed a potential game-winning field goal as kicker Evan Catlan’s attempt went wide left.

The Makos wasted no time in the second overtime. Jefferson barreled in from the 15-yard line for his second touchdown of the night, and Nunes found Donnelly for the two-point conversion to make it 36–28. When Westgate got their final chance, Lighthouse’s defense stood tall, sealing the victory with a clutch stop.

Deonte Reinhart added to the offensive fireworks with a 65-yard touchdown run and 110 total rushing yards, keeping the Makos’ ground attack rolling all game long.

Next up, the Lighthouse Christian College Makos (7–1) will return home to Mako Stadium to face the Atlantis University Atlanteans at 12 p.m. in what promises to be a pivotal game for the South Division crown.
